HotelTonight – Old Louisville Hotels

The United States has always been a country with an eye going forward, ever charging towards the latest and greatest new things. I've always loved that about where I grew up, and every city in the United States that I've either lived in or visited has shared that general belief. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't places around the country that still don't hang onto the past in a good way. Traditions are important as is our history, as each makes us a better society in a lot of ways. Louisville, Kentucky is one of those cities that definitely embraces its traditions and its history. I've always enjoyed visiting here, as you can see the past, present and the future all in one day and usually in one neighborhood. I've been exploring this city one small community at a time, and for my last work trip I decided that I'd spend 24 hours of my own time exploring Old Louisville. I wanted to see the past in full view. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, either, as I travel with HotelTonight. This app would find me an Old Louisville hotel as soon as I was ready.

The Homes

The first thing that bonks you over the head when you get out of your car and start exploring Old Louisville is the homes. I don't think I've ever seen more lovely Victorian homes than I did in Old Louisville. As it turns out, many of these homes have been restored relatively recently. I think that's a good thing, and it speaks to how the folks here are open to the future but still want to protect the past and their traditions. These homes are likely worth quite a bit these days, but I'm not sure you could put a number on them.

The Museums

If you're going to have the word 'old' in your neighborhood's name, you're most likely going to be home to quite a few museums, and that's the case here in Old Louisville. I walked through an art museum and two history museums all within a few hours. The art museum was put together quite nicely, complete with a large collection of works and a courtyard for you to enjoy the scenery. I love museums and could have easily spent the entire day at any of the three.

The Food

For whatever reason, I felt like eating some old-time Louisville food, and I heard about a tavern in the neighborhood that had been serving some of the best hamburgers in town for generations. I wanted that, and I was glad I had made that decision when I got there. They serve their burgers in those old white paper wraps, and they even serve them with those ribbed French fries that you had when you were a kid. I enjoyed the food immensely, as you could taste the decades of experience in every bite.
