HotelTonight – Hyde Park Austin Hotels in Seconds

Every time I visit Austin, Texas, I leave a little piece of my heart there. I don't live there, but I have always wondered how great it would be to do so. While the circumstances in my life don't allow for such an opportunity, I am grateful that my job takes me there quite often. I've adopted a little plan for when I'm there lately, in that I schedule my return flight for 24 hours after I have finished the work that needed to be done. Each time I've done that, I chose one neighborhood to spend those 24 hours exploring. On my most recent trip, I chose Hyde Park. I had heard a lot about it and wanted to get a look at what it's like to live there. It's a fun way to get to know a city better. I wasn't worried about lodging, either, as I always travel with my trusty HotelTonight app. It helps people find accommodations instantly. I'd book my Hyde Park Austin hotel room when my exploring was done and I was ready for some sleep.

The Architecture

As soon as you pull into Hyde Park, you realize that this is a truly historic neighborhood. It seems as though all of the buildings there are at least 100 years old, and as it turns out many of them have been around that long. The neighborhood was initially built near the end of the 19th Century, and there are a lot of Victorian style homes that still stand. Many of them are now small businesses, duplexes, small apartment developments and the like, and it's obvious that the folks who live here work to preserve this look.

The Cafes

I think that one of the best ways to get a true sense of community in a neighborhood is to see how many cafes and that type of thing are present. Cafes are essentially gathering places for local residents, and there are quite a few of them in Hyde Park. I stopped at one for a cup of coffee and instantly noticed groups of people all talking together as if they had known each other for years. I struck up a conversation with one lady who told me that yes, every café has a set of regulars that tend to see each other almost daily. This really is a community.

The People

In a neighborhood this old and packed with this much history, I'd expect the residents to generally be a bit older and long-time residents of it. That's not really the case here, and I was somewhat surprised by that. Hyde Park sits near the University of Texas at Austin, and a lot of faculty members and recent graduates live here, creating a younger environment that still maintains that strong sense of community.

After all of that walking and talking and learning, I was tired and ready to call it a day. I grabbed my phone, opened HotelTonight and booked a Hyde Park Austin hotel within seconds. It was only a block from where I was, so I didn't have far to go before I could relax and fall into what I was sure was going to be a deep sleep.
